Fixing Missing Required Attributes
Missing required attributes are a common cause of product disapprovals. This guide helps you identify and fix missing data.
Finding Products with Missing Attributes
Section titled “Finding Products with Missing Attributes”-
Go to Products
Click Products in the sidebar.

Apply filter
Click Filters and select:
- “Has Issues” = Yes
- Or specific: “Missing Brand”, “Missing GTIN”

Review results
Products with missing attributes are listed with issue indicators.
Common Missing Attributes
Section titled “Common Missing Attributes”Why it’s required: Identifies the manufacturer for proper matching.
How to fix:
- Set brand from Shopify vendor field
- Manually enter brand name
- Use metafield mapping
If you don’t have a brand:
- For custom/handmade: Set
identifier_exists: false - For private label: Use your store name
GTIN (UPC/EAN/ISBN)
Section titled “GTIN (UPC/EAN/ISBN)”Why it’s required: Unique identifier for product matching.
How to fix:
- Add barcode to Shopify product
- Enter GTIN in Feedy McFeed Feed
- Import GTINs from spreadsheet
If you don’t have GTIN:
- Provide brand + MPN instead
- Set
identifier_exists: falsefor custom products
Google Product Category
Section titled “Google Product Category”Why it’s required: Determines ad targeting and policy compliance.
How to fix:
- Use AI suggestions
- Manually select from taxonomy
- Bulk assign by product type
Product Description
Section titled “Product Description”Why it’s required: Provides shoppers with product information.
How to fix:
- Use Shopify product description
- Write custom feed descriptions
- Use AI to generate descriptions
Product Images
Section titled “Product Images”Why it’s required: Shoppers need to see the product.
How to fix:
- Add images in Shopify
- Verify image URLs are accessible
- Check image meets size requirements
Fixing Missing Brand
Section titled “Fixing Missing Brand”Method 1: Use Shopify Vendor
Section titled “Method 1: Use Shopify Vendor”- Go to Settings > Field Mappings
- Find “Brand” mapping
- Set source to “Vendor”
- Save and regenerate
Method 2: Bulk Edit
Section titled “Method 2: Bulk Edit”- Filter products by vendor
- Select all from same brand
- Bulk edit: Set brand = vendor name
- Repeat for each vendor
Method 3: Import
Section titled “Method 3: Import”- Export products
- Add brand column
- Fill in brand names
- Import updated file
Fixing Missing GTIN
Section titled “Fixing Missing GTIN”Validating GTINs
Section titled “Validating GTINs”Before adding, verify GTINs are valid:
- 8 digits (GTIN-8)
- 12 digits (UPC-A)
- 13 digits (EAN)
- 14 digits (GTIN-14)
Use online validators to check the check digit.
Adding GTINs
Section titled “Adding GTINs”Individual product:
- Go to Products > select product
- Enter GTIN in the GTIN field
- Save
Bulk import:
- Export products
- Add GTIN column
- Fill from manufacturer data
- Import
When You Don’t Have GTINs
Section titled “When You Don’t Have GTINs”Set identifier_exists: false for:
- Handmade products
- Vintage items
- Custom products
- Store brand without GTINs
Fixing Missing Category
Section titled “Fixing Missing Category”Using AI Suggestions
Section titled “Using AI Suggestions”- Select uncategorized products
- Click Optimize with AI > Categories
- Review suggestions
- Apply accurate categories
Manual Selection
Section titled “Manual Selection”- Select product
- Click Google Product Category field
- Search for your category
- Select from dropdown
Bulk Assignment
Section titled “Bulk Assignment”- Filter by product type
- Select all matching products
- Bulk edit: Set category
- Repeat for each type
Fixing Apparel Attributes
Section titled “Fixing Apparel Attributes”Apparel requires additional attributes:
Gender
Section titled “Gender”| Value | Use For |

Age Group
Section titled “Age Group”| Value | Use For |

| newborn | 0-3 months |
| infant | 3-12 months |
| toddler | 1-5 years |

| adult | Teen and adult |
Use standard color names:
- Red, Blue, Green (not “Ruby”, “Navy”, “Forest”)
- For patterns: “Red/Blue” or “Multicolor”
Match your size system:
- US, UK, EU sizes
- S, M, L, XL
- Numeric (32, 34, 36)
Attribute Source Priority
Section titled “Attribute Source Priority”When multiple sources are available:
- Feedy McFeed Feed override — Always used if set
- Shopify metafield — Used if configured
- Shopify standard field — Default mapping
- Default value — Fallback if set
Bulk Fix Workflow
Section titled “Bulk Fix Workflow”For large catalogs:

Export products with issues
Filter and export products missing data.

Fix in spreadsheet
Fill in missing values using manufacturer data, existing records, or research.

Validate before import
Check data format matches requirements.

Import and verify
Import file and check issue count decreased.
Preventing Missing Attributes

- Train staff on data requirements
