Fixing Missing Required Attributes

Missing required attributes are a common cause of product disapprovals. This guide helps you identify and fix missing data.

  1. Go to Products

    Click Products in the sidebar.

  2. Apply filter

    Click Filters and select:

    • “Has Issues” = Yes
    • Or specific: “Missing Brand”, “Missing GTIN”
  3. Review results

    Products with missing attributes are listed with issue indicators.

Why it’s required: Identifies the manufacturer for proper matching.

How to fix:

  • Set brand from Shopify vendor field
  • Manually enter brand name
  • Use metafield mapping

If you don’t have a brand:

  • For custom/handmade: Set identifier_exists: false
  • For private label: Use your store name

Why it’s required: Unique identifier for product matching.

How to fix:

  • Add barcode to Shopify product
  • Enter GTIN in Feedy McFeed Feed
  • Import GTINs from spreadsheet

If you don’t have GTIN:

  • Provide brand + MPN instead
  • Set identifier_exists: false for custom products

Why it’s required: Determines ad targeting and policy compliance.

How to fix:

  • Use AI suggestions
  • Manually select from taxonomy
  • Bulk assign by product type

Why it’s required: Provides shoppers with product information.

How to fix:

  • Use Shopify product description
  • Write custom feed descriptions
  • Use AI to generate descriptions

Why it’s required: Shoppers need to see the product.

How to fix:

  • Add images in Shopify
  • Verify image URLs are accessible
  • Check image meets size requirements
  1. Go to Settings > Field Mappings
  2. Find “Brand” mapping
  3. Set source to “Vendor”
  4. Save and regenerate
  1. Filter products by vendor
  2. Select all from same brand
  3. Bulk edit: Set brand = vendor name
  4. Repeat for each vendor
  1. Export products
  2. Add brand column
  3. Fill in brand names
  4. Import updated file

Before adding, verify GTINs are valid:

  • 8 digits (GTIN-8)
  • 12 digits (UPC-A)
  • 13 digits (EAN)
  • 14 digits (GTIN-14)

Use online validators to check the check digit.

Individual product:

  1. Go to Products > select product
  2. Enter GTIN in the GTIN field
  3. Save

Bulk import:

  1. Export products
  2. Add GTIN column
  3. Fill from manufacturer data
  4. Import

Set identifier_exists: false for:

  • Handmade products
  • Vintage items
  • Custom products
  • Store brand without GTINs
  1. Select uncategorized products
  2. Click Optimize with AI > Categories
  3. Review suggestions
  4. Apply accurate categories
  1. Select product
  2. Click Google Product Category field
  3. Search for your category
  4. Select from dropdown
  1. Filter by product type
  2. Select all matching products
  3. Bulk edit: Set category
  4. Repeat for each type

Apparel requires additional attributes:

Use standard color names:

  • Red, Blue, Green (not “Ruby”, “Navy”, “Forest”)
  • For patterns: “Red/Blue” or “Multicolor”

Match your size system:

  • US, UK, EU sizes
  • S, M, L, XL
  • Numeric (32, 34, 36)

When multiple sources are available:

  1. Feedy McFeed Feed override — Always used if set
  2. Shopify metafield — Used if configured
  3. Shopify standard field — Default mapping
  4. Default value — Fallback if set

For large catalogs:

  1. Export products with issues

    Filter and export products missing data.

  2. Fix in spreadsheet

    Fill in missing values using manufacturer data, existing records, or research.

  3. Validate before import

    Check data format matches requirements.

  4. Import and verify

    Import file and check issue count decreased.

  • Require key fields during product creation
  • Use metafields for additional data
  • Train staff on data requirements
  • Set up validation alerts
  • Use rules to flag incomplete products
  • Regular data audits
